Governor Bill Lee announced two judicial appointments on Feb. 28, 2025.
Judge Steven W. Sword was appointed to the Court of Criminal Appeals, Eastern Division, and Judge Valerie L. Smith was appointed to the Court of Appeals, Western Division.
Judge Sword currently serves as a Criminal Court Judge for the 6th Judicial District. His appointment fills the vacancy created by the untimely passing of Judge James C. Witt, Jr.
Judge Smith currently serves as a Circuit Court Judge for the 30th Judicial District. Her appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Arnold B. Goldin.
Both appointments are effective upon confirmation by the Tennessee General Assembly.
