Blount County Court Celebrates National Adoption Day

Some East Tennessee children will be celebrating the holidays with the best present of all this year – a new family and a place to call home.

National Adoption Day is held annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Some county courts hold special celebrations each year, including Blount County Circuit Court, which held a Christmas-themed Adoption ceremony on Monday.

Several children had their adoptions finalized in Judge Tammy Harrington's courtroom and celebrated the occasion with their families – and Santa!

"This is amazing, I've never seen anything like this," said Sherry Dyer, who finalized the adopted of two daughters Monday. "This is truly amazing. It looks like a whole lot of dreams are coming true."

Several adoptive parents said the festivities made the day that much more special.

"I think it's wonderful," said Angela Brown. Brown's daughter's adoption was finalized in September, but they went back to the courtroom Monday to take part in the National Adoption Day celebration.
