Campbell to be sworn in Nov. 16 as 30th Judicial District Judge in Shelby County

John Wheeler Campbell will be sworn in as judge in Division VI of the Criminal Court at 2 p.m. on Friday November 16 at the Shelby County Criminal Justice Complex, 201 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38103.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place in the auditorium, followed by a reception in the Division VI Courtroom on the 6th floor.

Campbell replaces Judge John Fowlkes who resigned in July to become a Federal District Court judge.

Campbell has worked in the Shelby County District Attorney General’s office since 1985, most recently serving as deputy district attorney general. He was an assistant public defender in Shelby County previous to his time in the D.A.’s office.

Campbell graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s in History in 1980 and earned his J.D. from the Cecil Humphreys School of Law in Memphis in 1983.

For the past 10 years he has also served as a special assistant to the U.S. Attorney. He is a member of the National District Attorneys Association and Tennessee District Attorneys Conference. He is also a consultant to the National Civil Rights Museum.
