Tennessee Hosts Southern Region High Court Conference

Earlier this month, Tennessee hosted high court judges, justices and state administrators from eight states for the 3rd annual Southern Region High Court Conference.

The conference, which was held October 8 – 10 in Nashville, Tenn., featured an array of educational programs centered around the conference theme of “Proactive Judicial Leadership in Today’s Changing World”. Conference attendees included high court judges, justices and state administrators from Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and the Virgin Islands.

Speakers for the conference included a number of prominent Tennesseans: Governor Phil Bredesen; Nashville Mayor Karl Dean; John Seigenthaler, former reporter and founder of the First Amendment Center; Dr. Randy Lowry, president of Lipscomb University; and Chris Guthrie, dean of Vanderbilt University School of Law.

“The conference provided a wonderful opportunity for court members to engage with colleagues and discuss important issues facing the judiciary,” said Chief Justice Janice Holder. “We were honored to host the conference in Tennessee, and we thank all of our speakers for the informative and thought-provoking presentations.”

While in Nashville, conference attendees also had the opportunity to tour iconic sites such as the Grand Ole Opry, a Civil War site, and The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson.
