Trial Judge Statistics Unveiled on Web site

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee court system has published a database of trial judge statistics on its Web site today. While the courts have long shared filing and disposition data by Judicial District, this is the first time the court system has published statistical information by individual judges.

This statistical database, which is available at https://judgestats.tncourts.gov/Default.aspx, allows Web site visitors to see the number of cases disposed or appealed by individual judge or by Judicial District during the 2008-09 fiscal year. The database provides the docket numbers for the cases that have been appealed, and also offers a link to the Web site’s searchable opinion database, allowing visitors to easily see the appellate court opinions that have been filed for those cases.

“By adding this database to our Web site, we are equipping the public with important information about the judges in their own Judicial Districts,” said Elizabeth Sykes, director of the Administrative Office of the Courts. “We hope that this information helps better inform the public about the work being done in the state’s judiciary.”

“I commend the Administrative Office of the Courts for taking this important step to increase the level of transparency in the court system,” Senate Judiciary Chairwoman Mae Beavers said. “It’s important for the public to be informed about the judges who preside over their courts, and I believe this information will help voters make better informed decisions during the upcoming judicial elections.”

The Administrative Office of the Courts is also working to offer increased functionality and information with its new Web site, which will be unveiled in the coming months.
