The session will provide guidance on locating key DCS policies, summarizing critical policies relevant to dependency cases, and leveraging these policies to advocate for best practices in court. Attorneys will also learn strategies for navigating professional relationships with DCS, addressing policy compliance concerns, and effectively using the chain of command when issues arise. A key focus will be on DCS’s legal obligation to provide reasonable efforts to prevent removal and to reunify families or achieve the case plan goal outlined in the family permanency plan.
