The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in Jackson, Tennessee, has an immediate opening for the position of Staff Attorney. This position requires highly responsible administrative and professional legal work.
Under the direction of the Court of Criminal Appeals, the Staff Attorney is responsible for reviewing all motions and drafting proposed orders; screening appeals for procedural and jurisdictional problems; reviewing and making recommendations on applications for extraordinary appeals; and providing legal advice to the appellate court clerks. A substantial portion of the duties will consist of reviewing court files of capital cases and the drafting of memoranda regarding the cases.
Qualifications: Applicants must have graduated from law school, be licensed to practice law in Tennessee, and possess a valid Tennessee Law License. A minimum of three years or more preferred of legal experience and prior clerkship or staff attorney experience. Experience in the practice of law or as an appellate law clerk is preferred but not required. The compensation for the position is determined based upon the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
