Investiture Ceremony Set For Justice Sharon Gail Lee

Oath of Office to be Administered by Governor Phil Bredesen

Governor Phil Bredesen will administer the oath of office to Justice Sharon G. Lee in a formal investiture ceremony on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Supreme Court courtroom in Knoxville. This ceremony is open to everyone. Governor Bredesen appointed Sharon Gail Lee of Madisonville to the Tennessee Supreme Court on September 29, 2008. Lee practiced law in Monroe County from 1978-2004 and served on the Tennessee Court of Appeals from 2004 until her appointment to the Tennessee Supreme Court. Justice Lee graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Business and the University of Tennessee College of Law. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, former president of the East Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women and a previous member of the board of the Tennessee Lawyer’s Association for Women. She previously served as secretary and member of the executive board of the Knoxville Executive Women’s Association and is a member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Monroe County. Justice Lee’s appointment to the Supreme Court created a majority of women on the high court for the first time in the state’s history.
