Council Will Consider 10 Applicants In Second Panel for Hamilton County Judge Opening

Ten attorneys have applied in a second round of interviews for the Hamilton County Criminal Court judge position that became vacant June 1 upon the retirement of The Honorable Rebecca Stern.

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments previously met on April 9 and considered seven applicants, three of whom were submitted to Gov. Bill Haslam for his consideration. Pursuant to an executive order signed last fall, the governor requested the Council submit a second panel of three nominees for his consideration.

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments will interview all qualified applicants starting at 9 a.m. EDT on July 23, 2015 at The Chattanoogan Hotel, 1201 Broad St, Chattanooga, 37402 The meeting will include a public hearing, during which members of the public may express any objections to any applicant. The interview and public hearing will be open to the public.

The council is expected to make their selections immediately following the interviews and forward the names to Gov. Bill Haslam for his consideration. The Governor can select from either of the two panels.
