Council Accepting Applications for Vacancy in 1st Judicial District Circuit Court – Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, & Washington Counties

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments is now accepting applications for the Circuit Court Judge vacancy in the 1st Judicial District – Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, & Washington counties. The impending vacancy has been created by the announcement by Judge Thomas J. Seeley, Jr. that he is retiring effective June 30, 2015.

Any interested applicant must be a licensed attorney who is at least 30 years of age, a resident of the state for five years, and a resident of the 1st Judicial District. Applicants must complete the designated application, which is available here, and submit it to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon EDT on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments will interview all qualified applicants in the district at a time to be announced soon. The meeting will include a public hearing, during which members of the public may express any objections to any applicant. The interview and public hearing will be open to the public.
