Judiciary Mourns Loss of Former Judge Harold Wimberly Jr.

Harold Wimberly Jr., who served as a General Sessions Judge in Knoxville from 1974-1987 and a Circuit Court Judge in the 6th Judicial District from 1987 to 2014, passed away on January 24.

Judge Wimberly was a double alumni of the University of Tennessee and was admitted to the bar in 1966.  In 2013, he received the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services Bill Williams Service Award for outstanding achievement in adoption. He was well-known for performing weddings on Fort Loudon Lake on Valentine’s Day, many of which were broadcast live by a local radio station.

He is survived by his wife Sarah and son Harold Christopher.

Memorial services will be held at the Church Street United Method Church on January 31 at 5 p.m., followed by a receiving of friends in the Parish Hall. Burial will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1.
