Obituary For Retired Judge Jerry Scott


Retired Judge Jerry Scott, age 75, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away on Sunday evening, March 5, 2017.

Dr. Dean Sisk and John Kea will be officiating. Military Honors will be presented following the service on the church campus.
 
Judge Scott was born in Nashville, TN to the late Mildred Inez Scott. Judge Scott is survived by his wife, Ann Kathryn Brian Scott; daughters, Susan Scott VanDyke and her husband Will of Brentwood and Ashley Scott Kelley and her husband Jon of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Anna Claire VanDyke, William David VanDyke, Luke Taylor VanDyke, Evie Grace Kelley and Ian Scott Kelley.
 
Judge Scott’s long legal career began in the US Air Force in the Judge Advocate General’s Department and continued as a Military Reserve Judge until he retired from the US Air Force as a Brigadier General. Following his initial military service, he entered into private practice in Waynesboro, TN with the law firm of Keaton, Haggard, Turner and Scott. He served the citizens of Tennessee as a Circuit Judge in the 11th (now 22nd) District, which included Maury, Giles Lawrence and Wayne Counties; Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals from 1979-1995; and Senior Judge for the State of Tennessee 2004-2008. He was a partner in the law firm of Scott & Kea in Murfreesboro from 1995-2004 and then Scott and Associates. Judge Scott’s numerous civic interests included the Lions Club, Rotary Club, numerous Bar Associations and he was a former Board Member of Special Kids, Inc. of Murfreesboro. He was a longtime member, Sunday School leader and former deacon of Belle Aire Baptist Church.
