Madison County Juvenile Courts Give Lift with HERO Program

The Madison County Juvenile Court has partnered with the University of Memphis at Lambuth to give non-violent juvenile offenders training and tutoring instead of time in a detention center.

Madison County Juvenile Court Judge Christy Little worked with Dr. Niles Reddick, vice provost of the University of Memphis at Lambuth to develop the HERO Program. It helps youth offenders between the ages of 12 and 17 with the after-school activities. The program gives real-world experience to the Lambuth college students, who help staff the session and teach life skills. The HERO Program also invites people from the community to participate and share skills they have with the students. The program is funded by a three-year grant.
