Judge Mike Faulk Succumbs to Cancer

Third Judicial District Circuit Court Judge Mike Faulk died Tuesday night after battling cancer. He was 61 years old.

According to his staff, he had been receiving hospice care at a family home in Brentwood and it was there that he died.

Faulk was appointed judge on June 27, 2013 by Gov. Bill Haslam. Faulk had also served as a Tennessee state senator representing Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson and Union counties in the Tennessee General Assembly from 2009 to 2012. 

“Judge Faulk’s death is a huge loss to the people of the 3rd Judicial District and the entire judicial family,” said Chief Justice Sharon Lee. “He was a gracious servant to the people of Tennessee as both a judge and a state senator and our thoughts are with his family.”

Faulk was a member of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission from 1985-1991, serving as vice chairman from 1989-1991. He has served as a Hawkins County Juvenile Court referee, town attorney in Mount Carmel and city attorney in Church Hill.

Faulk received his juris doctorate in 1979 from Memphis State University where he received the Kirby Bowling Labor Law Award as outstanding labor law student for 1979. He received a master’s degree from Memphis State in 1978 and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1975. He is survived by his wife and two adult children.
