Passing of Former Sullivan County Circuit Court Clerk Raymond Winters

Raymond W. Winters

Raymond W. Winters Jr. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Raymond William Winters Jr., a kind and gentle man, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on April 8, 2012. Raymond was born on July 24, 1939. Raymond graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in 1961, and served in the United States National Guard from 1962 to 1970. Prior to his retirement in 2006, Raymond served as the Sullivan County Circuit Court Clerk for 31 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond William and Mary Ida Winters. Raymond is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jackie Isley Winters; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Stephanie Winters of Kingsport; son and daughter-in-law, John and Heather Winters of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Scott Loftis of Canton, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Reece, Zeb and Madeline Winters, Evan and Eric Loftis, and Finn, Owen, and Declan Winters; and brother, Kenneth W. Winters. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 10, from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. at Blountville United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow visitation with Pastor Charles D. Ensminger officiating. Graveside services will be held at Gunnings Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11.
