Administrative Assistant – Nashville

The Administrative Office of the Courts is seeking a qualified person for the position of Administrative Assistant focusing primarily on providing administrative support to the Tennessee board of court reporting. Work includes creating and maintaining filing systems, maintaining databases, coordinating and staffing board meetings, preparing correspondence and other duties frequently associated with a professional office environment. There is frequent verbal and written contact with the public, and other state agencies. In addition, the work may include administrative assistance to other divisions within the Administrative Office of the Courts. The administrative assistant will work under the supervision of the General Counsel, but with initiative and independent judgment.

The successful applicant must have strong writing and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing with the public and professionals. The applicant must be proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. A high school diploma and two years increasingly responsible full-time secretarial and administrative experience is required.

The position may require occasional overnight travel.

Capital Case Attorney -- Nashville

The Tennessee Judiciary is seeking a qualified person for the position of Capital Case Attorney. The successful applicant must be an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee and demonstrate effective legal research and writing skills.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a designated presiding trial judge; and will assist trial judges prior to and during capital murder trials, and in post-conviction capital case matters. The attorney reads briefs, identifies and researches legal issues, and prepares memoranda as requested. Based in Nashville, the position requires statewide travel to attend hearings, trials, conferences and meetings. A complete position description is available upon request.

Court Improvement Attorney

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is seeking a qualified person for the position of Court Improvement Attorney. The successful applicant must be a licensed attorney in Tennessee with two or more years experience in juvenile court litigation and child welfare law. Preference will also be given to candidates with teaching or training experience and strong legal research and writing skills. The position is funded by a federal grant which is subject to re-appropriation.

Under the supervision of the Court Improvement Coordinator, this position conducts legal research in the area of child welfare law; develops, plans and implements educational seminars for judiciary, foster care review boards and attorneys in the areas of child dependency and termination of parental rights; writes training manuals; provides technical assistance to judges, attorneys, court staff and foster care review boards; works with courts and other governmental agencies in improving procedures in foster care cases; and performs other tasks as may be assigned. Monthly in-state travel and some out-of-state travel is required. This position is located in Nashville. Telecommuting is not an option.
